The Miracle Theater opened in 1948 as a neighborhood movie house. Its sumptuous Streamline Moderne lobby and marquee welcomed visitors to the movies for decades until the theater closed in 1989.
In 1995, the City of Coral Gables and Actors’Playhouse entered a partnership to renovate the historic Miracle Theatre, transforming the splendid Art Deco facility into the company’s new home.
About Actors' Playhouse
Established in 1988, the company was located in a converted Kendall movie theatre for its first seven years before relocating to the Miracle Theater in 1995.
Since its founding, Actors’ Playhouse has produced 6 Mainstage productions year. Past shows have included Disney’s Beauty and the Beast and Elton John and Tim Rice’s Aida, Neil Sedaka’s Breaking Up Is Hard To Do, and the Pre-Broadway development project of Little Shop of Horrors.
The Theater for Young Audiences program produces five fully staged musicals for children every year, and in 2006 staged the world premier of NO DOGS ALLOWED by Sonia Manzano.
The company has received numerous professional awards, including record numbers of Carbonell Awards, the prestigious symbol of top quality regional theatre in South Florida.
Miami Herald Theatre Critic Christine Dolen states “Actors’ Playhouse is the undisputed champion of musical theatre production in South Florida.”
