This is the artwork for the 1992 Tropic Hunt, which was held in Coral Gables. Notice the tip of the pinnacle for the MIRACLE sign has the curlycue intact! (click for larger image)
I'm glad you enjoyed the Tropic cover! This is one of the reasons that I created the Archives to begin with; to help celebrate the areas that the Hunt brings us to.
Take a look at the 1992 Hunt Video at the archives, as it also has a brief glimpse into the inside of the Miracle Theater, back when it still showed movies...
I miss the movie theater...I remember seeing Citizen Kane there about 15 or so years ago...a great setting for a great movie!
We're working on repairing the pinnacle and renovating the marquee, and there have been arguments back and forth over when the spiral cap was replaced, and that cover is a key piece of evidence!
The Miracle Theater opened in 1948 as a neighborhood movie house. Its sumptuous Streamline Moderne lobby and marquee welcomed visitors to the movies for decades until the theater closed in 1989.
In 1995, the City of Coral Gables and Actors’Playhouse entered a partnership to renovate the historic Miracle Theatre, transforming the splendid Art Deco facility into the company’s new home.
